Good morning.
In the midst of growing stress, culture tells us the best we can do is push on and chase the next happy moment. These happy moments may bring temporary relief from our mounting stress, and if we’re fortunate enough, they can make us forget about our stress for a while. But escaping our stress by chasing happiness is actually the recipe for even greater stress.
When we’re going through trials, it’s impossible to be happy. Our external circumstances won’t allow it. It is, however, possible to have joy. Our internal hope in God can give us the satisfaction of growing through the greatest of trials.
We can grow through stress by cultivating joy in God. Not only does this make us feel better, it makes us better people as well.
"Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord , I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights." (Habakkuk 3:17-19)
In our circumstances let us find our strength and joy in the Lord.
Have a joyful weekend.
Blessings.
Mike and Daphne
