Good morning.
Derek Prince writes that the most complete account of what was accomplished at the cross was given through the prophet Isaiah. "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:6)
The entire message of the Gospel revolves around one unique historical event: the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross. Everything that was due to us, i.e. all the consequences of our sins, was taken by Jesus and exchanged for all the good due to Him.
Isaiah puts it this way: "Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4-5)
This is the Divine exchange. Jesus was punished that we might be forgiven. Jesus was wounded that we might be healed.
"Oh the wonderful Cross, oh the wonderful Cross
Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live
Oh the wonderful Cross, oh the wonderful Cross
All who gather here by grace, draw near and bless Your name"
(The Wonderful Cross : Chris Tomlin)
This is the reason that we can come before God with thanksgiving. Have a great day.
Blessings.
